Another one of those huge projects. I knew it would take a while to finish, but I never guessed I'd still be working on it in November.
Though, the 6-week delay in getting the tub/shower, and the other 3 weeks it took to get the DigitalIO didn't help much...
- 2012-11-03: plumbing work started.
- Hint: Turning off the water isn't enough. Remember to open a valve somewhere to release the pressure before you cut into a pipe! And yes, I really made that mistake. Got really wet in the process.
- I know everything I truly never wanted to know about PEX, PB (polybutylene, the old gray pipes that shouldn't be used) and the pleasures of pressure crimping 3/4" pipes above your head, with arms extended, while balancing on a shaky stepstool.
- 2012-11-04: DigitalIO water valve is installed.
- 2012-11-04: first rough-in for body sprays is partially installed.
- 2012-11-05: completed rough-in for 5 of the 6 shower sprays.
- 2012-11-05: almost all of the plumbing is complete! Only reason I had to stop is because I ran out of 1/2" PEX crimp rings.
- 2012-11-06: everything is hooked up. Now I have to find all the leaks. You can see the digital shower and bath control in this picture.
- 2012-11-10: drywall is now in place, but things will be delayed a few days because I sliced my thumb on the bathroom mirror which required three stiches at the E.R. tonight
- 2012-11-14: So I thought my thumb was healed enough to work a bit on the bathroom renovations. I put on a plastic surgical glove on my left hand to keep the dust away, and worked on the drywall. When I was done, took off the glove...and it was full of blood. Looks like the cut re-opened at some point tonight. Oops.
- 2012-11-23: With my thumb much better, I trimmed (again!) a bit off the back wall, and maneuvered it into the bathroom tonight over several hours. I didn't weight it, but I'm guessing it is around 150 lbs.
- 2012-11-23: It is now glued to the wall, and I measured what I think is the correct location for the body spray. Cutting through this stuff is easy, but the thought of cutting the wrong location scares me.
- 2012-11-23: The hole is cut, and bracing has been put in place in 4 locations to make sure it stays pushed hard against the wall until everything dries.
- 2012-11-24: Left corner wall in now in place. As you can see, I had to add a lot of bracing to ensure it was pressed up tight against the wall.
- 2012-11-26: All walls are shower heads are now installed. The last wall was installed tonight.
- 2012-11-26: Note the digital shower control. There are no manual faucet controls. The top push button is on/off while the blue and red dial controls the temperature. The bottom greem dial controls the pressure of each shower head. While the screen and four buttons in the center control which shower head is activated.
- 2012-11-29: The corner pieces as well as the large soap tray is now installed.
