Patrick's 5th birthday is at the end of the month. And this year I'm actually prepared with a home-built gift!

I vaguely recall my father building me a box with a bunch of lights, switches, alligator clips and several batteries. The idea was I could move the wires and toggle switches to make different lights turn on.

This is the same idea -- built with half a dozen automotive LEDs, 5 different kind of switches, and a 75db buzzer I modified so it wouldn't be as loud. All running from a 12V adapter you'd expect to be running a laptop.
