From: "Jean-Francois Charette" To: [...] Subject: Only 9,723,747 KM more to go.... That's not so bad... Date: Mon, 05 Jul 2004 00:09:46 -0400 Where should I start? How about a few stats.... Day 1 - Distance traveled... 134KM Amount of time traveled -5 hours and 40 minutes. For a first day I would say that's not so bad... I learned a few things as well I hope to put to good use in the future... First one is to never mess with a bus. I got my first flat tire trying to avoid being run over by a bus. The next thing I learned is if you wish to wipe off the sweat on your arms and face to remove the excess of salt accumulation, REAPPLY sunscreen after... I was lazy and figured it was late in the afternoon so there wouldn't be any need to go looking for the sun screen. Man was I wrong. Arms and legs got burnt to a crisp in no time. By the time I realized my mistake, it was already too late. Two days later I'm still paying for that mistake. By the way, thanks Jo for the first camping arrangements of the trip. It was nice to have a quiet camp site with running water on the first night out. The second day wasn't very eventful. I knew I had only about 70 KM to go before reaching my parents place so I got up only around 10 and took it easy all day. It took me about 2 and a half hours to complete the 68 KM that I had to do. Reaching my parents place was sure a sight for sore eyes (Cold shower and a warm meal) After 200 KM, it's hard to ask for better lodging then that :) Oh well... Tomorrow I start on one of the hardest parts of the journey.... Ontario. I hope the bugs up there don't drain too much of my blood and give me a chance to reach "Friendly Manitoba". Only time will tell I guess. That's about it for now... I hope to hear from the lot of you next time I log on.... Till then... JF
