What can we say...other than 13:30 is not an appropriate time at which to start climbing Garibaldi?! What started out as being just a few hours of leisure hiking turned into a nightmare when

Dan decided to go further ahead when Kat and I turned back at 16:00; needless to say, we still hadn't made it completely down before dark
Dan still hadn't returned by 22:00, by which time I called 911 to report a lost hiker!

Luckily, everything turned out OK. Before the RCMP finished assembling together a search party, Dan found his way back down in the dark using the light from his wrist watch! (Kat and I had also finished the hike back down using the light from our GPS.) You all expected much more than this from experienced hikers and backpackers, I know... Needless to say, the phrase "hey, it's just past noon, why don't we go hike up Garibaldi?" has turned into a favorite amongst our friends.
